Saturday, May 12th, 2007

Well, the results of the contest are in, and we have selected the winner of the Cool Optical Illusions logo design contest. Mukesh Panchal was the winner, and did a fantastic job. There were also some other entries to the contest that were also absolutely fantastic, but of course, we can pick only one winner.

So here it is, without further ado, the new logo:The new cool optical illusions logo

You’ll soon see this logo throughout the site, but it’ll take awhile to update all the pages. In the meantime, check out the other optical illusions throughout the site.

Did you know, you are just reading the blog of coolopticalillusions.com. If you go to coolopticalillusions.com you’ll see a huge collection of optical illusions pictures.

Car on Subway Doors Optical Illusion

Friday, May 11th, 2007

This is also pretty neat. The way this car has been painted on to the side of the subway doors, it looks like the people inside are riding in the car. Kind of a fun advertisement for a this blue car, and you gotta give it to the advertisers for turning something that would normally be pretty drab - the doors of a subway, into something interesting for people to think about on their way home.

We’ve seen similar illusions inside the main site of Cool Optical Illusions, with plumbers and race cars and even buses, but now we can add a subway illusion to the list! (Click the thumbnail image to view the larger picture)

Optical Illusion On Side of Building - Not straight lines.

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

Check out the side of this building. The architects have implemented a famous optical illusion to dress up the side of the building. Sometimes, on the Internet, this is called the Cafe Wall illusion, because one of the first pictures depicting this optical illusion was in the tile on the outside of a small cafe.

The effect of the illusion is this: The lines are all absolutely straight, however since the the black and white checkerboard is slightly staggered, as you look at the side of the building, you can’t help but think that the lines aren’t straight.

Wouldn’t it be fun to work in a building like this? I think so. This will have to be the new world headquarters for Cool Optical Illusions!

Wow. I’ve seen the pictures for so long, but have yet to see a video. This video is perfect. It shows every step of how he actually does these optical illusion chalk drawings. Don’t you just love this stuff!

Announcing the new Cool Optical Illusions Blog!

Monday, May 7th, 2007

Well, it was about time for a cool optical illusions blog, so I finally did it. I’ve loved all the blog posts you guys have added as you’ve linked to my site, so I thought it would be great to get a blog going to discuss the world of optical illusions.

So here’s the first optical illusion — it looks like a woman is biting this guys fingers! Ouch, but actually it’s a clever advertisement for Stop N’ Grow, something that helps you stop biting your nails I guess. Well, the ad works!
