Unexpected Shadow Illusion

There's nothing unusual about this shadow of a palm tree - except when you see that there is no palm tree around to be found. Just a concrete pylon within a courtyard with a painted-on shadow. The concrete pillar is lettered with "Nothing can replace a tree." I'm not sure that I can accept that statement for every cicumstance.

I guess it would depend on what you are wanting to use the tree to accomplish. A tire swing swings just as well from a metal swingset than an old maple tree, but you can't top a tree for straight-up treeness.
